Restaurant Review: Wok Box

Ever notice that when characters on TV shows or movies had Chinese take-out, they always ate out of those awesome little white boxes? For some reason we never really saw these in Canada until pretty recently.

One Walnut Grove restaurant that uses these little boxes is Wok Box.  They serve freshly made “Pan-Asian” cuisine which is an assortment of Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Korean and Indian dishes.

The food here is solid—definitely a fresher and healthier alternative to fast food.  Each dish comes loaded with vegetables, and the flavours are well-balanced (no super-sugary teriyaki sauce from a bucket here).  Try the red Thai Curry (pictured below).  It comes with chicken and vegetables on Jasmine rice for under $10.  The pot-stickers are also good.  They’re crispy and deep fried, and come with a sweet chili dipping sauce.  The Vietnamese salad roles however are quite bland tasting and the rice rappers are too sticky—probably worth passing on.

The Walnut Grove location is at 88th Ave and 202nd Street and is open for lunch and dinner daily.  Tell us what you think of Wok Box.  What’s your favourite dish?

Because of this posting you have now made The Wok Box a pan-asian-favorite option for myself and 3 other friends…and it can only grow in number now :)
